1968:

Alan Kay first proposes the concept of the Dynabook, similar to smartphones and tablets of today but with more functions and a longer battery life. Many experts are still trying to perfect it!

1984:

The Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, weighing 2 pounds and costing $3,995.00, becomes the first commercially available portable phone.

1994:

The first mobile phone with smartphone specs, IBM’s Simeon Personal Communicator, is launched. It wasn’t marketed as such though, and was called everything else, from a
pager to a PDA.

1998:

Siemens launches the S10, the first mobile phone with colour graphic, and Nokia rolls out the 6110 that included the first version of the beloved Snake game.

1999:

The first WAP-enabled mobile phone, allowing browsing and downloading of ringtones, pictures and games, is introduced in the form of the Nokia 7110 for about $210.00

2000:

Ericsson’s R380 is the first touchscreen phone to be marketed as a Smartphone, and retails for $780.00 or so. Microsoft
also releases the Tablet PC.

2001:

Nokia launches the 3310, which ultimately sells more than 160 million units. Cutting-edge 3G technology is launched, allowing fast-action mobile games like
Sonic from Sega.

2002:

Samsung joins the mobile phone party and launches the SGH-T100, the first phone with an LCD screen.

2004:

Pub Fruity becomes the world’s first Java Casino Game. It could not be played for real money, but there were mini side games to spend your chips on.

2007:

Apple releases its iPhone 2G, with gaming graphics to rival the best video game consoles, for $520.00.

2008:

The Dream Slider by HTC, the first Android smartphone, is released. The Apple App Store, which developed Texas Hold’em and Android Market, now Google Play, are also both introduced.

2010:

The HTC Evo 4G, world’s first 4G phone, and Apple’s iPad are both launched. The development of HTML5 means cross-platform games that run on different
devices can now be developed.

2011:

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the first smartphone with an integrated game console to blend phone and console functions, enters the market.

2012:

The Google Nexus, considered Google’s flagship Android products, and the iPad Mini, which makes superb iPad features more portable, hit the shelves and
compete with each other.

2014:

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and Gear 2 Smartwatch are released. Microgaming’s The Dark Knight 3D Slot can be played on the Smartwatch itself, crossing a new frontier.

2015:

Vegas Fruit Slots, the first fitness-based Casino Game, is launched for Android Wear Smartwatches.

2017:

Samsung to release the Galaxy X, the world’s first foldable smartphone. Speculation is that its flexibility is made possible by a Super AMOLED display.
